Spring is here, at least according to  the calendar, and it’s time to rouse ourselves from hibernation, dust off our best outfits, and visit a jazz gig in town.

There is much coming in October, such as the Wellington Jazz Festival and the return of Late Night Bites in Upper Hutt. But even before that, we’ve got a few “must see” events.

International visits are returning slowly but steadily. On Thursday, the 8th of September, Dan Costa, “a multicultural musician fascinated by nature”, will arrive from Europe to present music from his albums Suite Três Rios, Skyness, Live in California, and the upcoming Beams recorded with John Patitucci, Mike Stern, Dave Liebman, Hermeto Pascoal and other musicians in NYC. He will be joined by Umar and Hikurangi. Tickets are on sale now. Definitely not one to miss!

WJC have their Sunday Jam sessions every Sunday at 2:30 PM at the Library and regular Lovebite gigs on the 8ths and 22nds at 7:30. Check the calendar.

The Spring Jazz Festival in Martinborough is the first weekend of the month, featuring two major gigs and multiple popup concerts. Get your tickets now

And don’t forget about Jazz Sundays at Rogue and Vagabond, Friday nights at Hashigo Zake and Jazz nights at the Realm every second Wednesday.

If you want something more interactive Isaac J. Smith is organising Inner Ear workshops at the Pyramid Club every Wednesday night in September.

Time to celebrate Spring and life with great music, folks!
